Dr. Rafia Rehman

Assistant Professor

PhD

Dr. Rafia Rehman is serving as Assistant Professor (IPFP Fellow) in Department of Chemistry, University of Okara, Okara since August, 2020. Before joining here, she was working as visiting Assistant Professor in Government College University, Faisalabad since October, 2019. Dr. Rafia is an enthusiastic chemist and understand well the creative demand of the subject. She strongly believes on multiple intelligences (MIs) of students and utilizes well the active learning methods to make class environment more inclusive. She believes to be genuinely friendly with students and appreciate well their efforts for curricular as well as extra-curricular activities. Dr. Rafia is a natural product chemist with special focus on essential oils of medicinal plants. Her research work mainly focusses on the identification and isolation of bioactive compound from essential oils in order to provide the community with alternative natural medicines with less side effects. Recently, she has developed innovative methods for High Speed Counter Current Chromatographic isolation and TLC identification of essential oils, working with Dr. Svetlana Ignatova, in Brunel University London. Dr. Rafia Rehman has earned her PhD degree in Chemistry with specialization in analytical Chemistry, from University of Agriculture, Faisalabad (U.A.F). In her PhD research, Dr. Rafia successfully isolated more than fourteen bioactive terpene compounds from Thuja and Cyprus essential oils and assessed their efficacy against bacterial strains, oxidizing agents and bacterial biofilms. She has done a part of his PhD research in Brunel University London under HEC IRSIP scholarship. She has total 37 publication and 18 Book chapters on her credit. She has an excellent academic record with distinction in M. Phil Chemistry with 4/4 CGPA from U.A.F., and gold medal in BS (Hons) Chemistry from G. C. University, Faisalabad. She has accomplished her training under the national faculty development program (NFDP), June-2020, jointly organized by National Academy of Higher Education (NAHE) and Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan, which polished her teaching, research and professional skills very effectively and she got distinction with the title of “The Perfectionist”.
